Not easy to leave the University of Florida after all the incredible opportunities it gave me for growth and development in professional and personal life. I’m blessed to have met Chris McCarty, Russ Bernard, Barb Zsembik, Jeanne-Marie Stacciarini, Steve Perz, Ilaria Capua and many other UF mentors and colleagues who have guided and supported me in the US. I learned a lot from each of them and hope to be able to “pass it on” and be just as helpful and supportive with future students and colleagues.

8-Jun-21 ‣ I’ll be at the annual SISEC meeting and at the Networks 2021 conference this month to present results from research on inter-generational contact and health in an early Covid-19 epicenter in Northern Italy. Inter-generational contact is debated as a major source of Covid-19 contagion around the world. This is a project in collaboration with Federico Bianchi, Matteo Piolatto and Flaminio Squazzoni, with data from the Sociable study.

David’s dissertation is the result of years of work, interdisciplinary research and international collaborations involving colleagues in sociology, economics and nursing research in the U.S. and Europe. The dissertation is entitled “Migration, social support, and health in immigrant communities: A study on Roma in France and immigrant farmworkers in Florida.” Looking forward to reading David’s published work from this research!
8-Nov-20 ‣ Congratulations to Dr. Tom Smith for submitting his final PhD dissertation! Tom earns a PhD in criminology with a study, entitled “A Theory of Biosocial Support”, about the role of genetics and neurobiology in the reception of social support and its effects on criminal behavior. He’ll continue working in the UF BEBR/CTSI Network Science Lab as a postdoctoral associate with the UF Bureau of Economic and Business Research.
